On 2nd March, 1915, the 1st Lincolnshire battalion of 9 Brigade, 3rd Division moved into the front line at Ypres where they remained here until relieved two days later. On 4th March, their last day here, the enemy’s artillery was very active and there were many casualties especially among C Company and the machine-gun section in reserve trenches. Clifford Higgins died from wounds on 8th March when the battalion were resting at Vlamertinghe and it is likely that he was one of those wounded during this period in the line. |
